This 30-minute session includes a quick overview of key aspects of the opportunity, followed by a question-and-answer segment with our Divisional Vice-President and a successful nano-franchisee. After the webinar, you’ll receive a link to schedule an optional virtual meeting with the divisional Vice-President, who would be your success coach upon joining us. Once you accept the offer, we’ll enroll you in our online Motivated Brands Academy. Here, you’ll acquire knowledge about professional-level residential house cleaning, fundamental operational procedures, our company values, remuneration details and more. You have up to one week to complete this part of your onboarding. Simultaneously, you will receive a Start-Up Checklist detailing tasks to complete by the end of the second week, such as purchasing cleaning products and equipment. Following this, you can begin your practice bookings, where you’ll use our standardized house cleaning checklists to clean your own home or those of family and friends, practicing the Motivated House Cleaners method. Although we allow up to three weeks to complete these steps, with specific deadlines for each stage, you’re welcome to complete them sooner if you wish.

After finishing your practice bookings, you’ll be ready to officially onboard. This begins with another online training module covering key policies, from submitting availability and defining service areas to handling sickness or inclement weather. Once completed, we’ll onboard you to our booking app so you can begin accepting bookings and earning.

With your official onboarding, our marketing team will start your campaign. This encompasses a range of activities, including social media posts, ordering marketing materials like business cards and door hangers, running social media and Google ads, creating your Google My Business listing and launching your webpage, to name a few. These efforts are typically completed by the end of the fourth week from when you accept our offer.

Phase 2: Transition to Nano-Franchisee

Transition confidently to a legal nano-franchise owner six months after starting as an independent contractor, provided it’s a mutual good fit. This step elevates you from serving our customers to serving your own, significantly boosting your earnings. Instead of earning a percentage of the billing, you’ll receive the entire amount, less a small franchise royalty. Below are the steps for this transition. Should you have any questions about these steps or anything else, please do not hesitate to reach out. Our expert support agents will be very happy to assist you.

By the end of Phase 1, you will have already expressed your intent to move to Phase 2 and transition from an independent congtractor to a legal nano-franchisee. The entire process takes about three weeks.

At the conclusion of the process you’ll pay an affordable initial franchise fee for the legal right to operate using our brand name, trademark and operational systems in a specific geographical area for a five-year term, with an option to renew. The customers you serve will transition from being ours to yours, significantly increasing your income. You’ll earn the total amount billed to your customers through our ‘done-for-you’ managed services, minus a small ongoing franchise royalty. This royalty is a percentage of sales, allowing continued rights and access to support and services.

As a nano-franchisee, you’ll run the day-to-day operations of your franchise unit, adhering to our processes, policies, guidelines and best practices. Maintaining the brand’s standards is essential to consistently deliver high-quality services to consumers who trust and choose our franchise based on its reputation. At this stage, you’ll also have the opportunity to shift to a team model and hire your first house cleaning Assistant.

Once you formally state your intent to become a nano-franchisee, we’ll provide you with a Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). This mandatory legal document contains detailed information about the franchise, including things like audited financial statements, associated fees, mutual obligations, a list of current and former nano-franchisees, the proposed franchise agreement and other relevant contracts. You are required to possess the FDD for 14 days before advancing to the next stage.

The next step involves approving the franchise agreement, a binding legal contract that outlines the terms and conditions of our business relationship. This agreement details the rights granted, including the use of trademarks and business systems, the geographical territory for operations, the duration of the agreement, terms of renewal, and financial aspects like the initial franchise fee and ongoing royalties. It also establishes operational standards and procedures to ensure consistency and quality across the franchise network. This agreement is vital in defining the roles, expectations and commitments of both parties, forming the foundatoin of our business relationship.

We will support the execution of your grand opening, designed to generate buzz and publicity, attract customers and give your new nano-franchise a strong start in your service area. This event is key to making a memorable first impression, building brand awareness and establishing a solid connection with the communities you’ll be serving.

In the months leading up to your nano-franchise launch, you’ll hone your skills in the field. This experience is invaluable, even for those with prior experience or converting their own business. We’re talking about experience at the Motivated House Cleaners level. This will be complemented by ongoing online training, covering everything you need to know about professional-level cleaning, down to the science of soap molecules and soil removal. As part of this training, you’ll undergo compliance testing, allowing us to certify you as a Professional rather than an Apprentice.

We require you to carry $2,000.000 in Commercial General Liability Insurance (CGLI) to protect you, the Customer and us, in case you damage a Customers house, break something of value and for other reasons.

You are 100% free to use whichever insurance provider you choose for your CGLI. However, we  recommend TruShield Insurance for the following reasons:

  • Can upgrade or downgrade coverage easily without penalty
  • Great customer service

Getting this insurance online takes just minutes and is about $50/month in most cases! A small price to pay and marginal cost to protect yourself.  Especially when  you factor in the great pay you make with us. You’ll have earned enough to pay for the entire month’s insurance in your first 1.5 to 2.5 hours work.

Getting it set up is easy and nothing like getting car insurance.  Just a few clicks and you’ll be good to go. 

In Phase One, you’ll start as an Independent Contractor (IC). This role differs from being an employee. You’ll be a service provider under a contract with us, which outlines your responsibilities, compensation and other essential details.

As an IC, you’re exempt from many labor laws that apply to employees. This includes regulations on minimum wage, overtime, vacation pay and termination procedures, to name a few. Instead, your contract with us will address many of these areas, while some things normally covered under employment regulations simply do not apply.

Your nano-business will operate as a sole proprietorship, the simplest business form in Canada. As a sole proprietor there’s no distinction between you and your nano-business for legal and tax purposes. You and your nano-business are, essentially, one and the same.

You will not need a business number until your earnings exceed $30,000. At that point, registering for a business number is a straightforward process that can be done online or over the phone at no cost.

We won’t deduct income tax, Canada Pension Plan or Employment Insurance and, as a nano-business owner, you are responsible for remitting your own income taxes and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) contributions to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

However, you do not have to remit Employment Insurance. You will not be eligible for EI benefits unless you access EI Special Benefits by registering and contributing to the program. Also, you won’t have Workers Compensation coverage unless you purchase it directly yourself, which is inexpensive. We’ll pay you HST on your earnings and  you’ll have to file and remit HST yearly or quarterly, depending on what suits you best.

Remitting taxes is straightforward and can be done online through the CRA’s user-friendly online portal. This portal simplifies the entire tax remittance process, making it convenient and hassle-free. Don’t let any of this scare you as when you maintain good records it is not difficult or complex. 

Our app combined with a cheap app like ‘QuickBooks Self Employed’ simplifies your record-keeping. Quickbooks automatically imports transactions from your bank and credit cards and sorts them into business expense categories. It tracks HST on income and expenses and helps capture and organize receipts. It also tracks mileage automatically, categorizing business and personal trips, which is crucial for maximizing tax deductions.

We know some people find this intimidating and let it be a reason for not becoming their own boss. However, being your own boss is much more than that and has so many advantages. 

A significant advantage of being an IC is keeping more of your money due to lower overall taxes because your income is classified as business income, not employment income. This distinction allows you to claim various business-related expenses as tax deductions. These include some expenses that overlap with your personal life. Two examples are a portion of your vehicle expenses such as gas, insurance, maintenance, and loan/lease payment, as well as your cell phone. Claiming the business portion of these expenses means you can retain more money.

Let’s compare an employee and a sole proprietor, each earning $50,000 annually from house cleaning. For simplicity, we’ll assume a tax rate of 20% and that all other things are equal.

In the Employee Scenario: The taxable income is $50,000. Income tax is $10,000 (20% rate), and CPP and EI contributions total $3,567. The after-tax income becomes $36,433. Then after tax, the employee pays for these expenses – vehicle expenses of $14,300, cell phone $1,500, and a new computer $2,200. After paying for these, there is $22,133 in cash left.

In the Sole Proprietor Scenario: The taxable income is not $50,000. First, business expenses are deducted and then the tax rate is applied to the remainder. The revenue is $50,000, and business expenses deducted from that are $13,800 – business portion of the vehicle expenses $8,300, cell phone $1,500, home office expenses $1,800 and a new computer $2,200. This makes the taxable income $36,200. With an income tax of $7,240 (20% rate), CPP contributions of $3,872.10 and no EI premiums, the final cash left over is $25,087.90.

As demonstrated, the sole proprietor ends up with more cash left over, $25,087.90, compared to the employee’s $22,133. This is a difference of $2,955. 

You’ll notice there was a home office expense. This is because a portion of your home is used to run your business, so a portion of the rent/mortgage, home/renters insurance and utilities, like internet, can be claimed. This is an example of an expense you would be paying for anyway but that you now get to use as a business expense deduction.

Of course, you’ll have expenses that you would not have had anyway, such as your product and equipment, to name two. However, these earn you money, so are an investment in your nano-business and, of course, one must remember that you are remunerated much better than if you were an employee doing the same work.

The end result is that more money ends up in your pocket, helping to raise your standard of living.
